Inconsistent hinting
Sometimes hinting leads to visually misaligned glyphs:
Separate images: no hinting, hinting
For example, in many sizes the baseline of the italic lower case lettters gets "rounded down", making the text look like it is set lower than the regular font and italic capital M.
The same can also be seen in the regular font, where the "u" is "rounded down" and the "m" is "rounded up", making them look misaligned.
