RFC Local contextual variants
A couple of years ago, I wrote some afdko scripts for OTF “smart font” features to automagically select ligatures or alternate glyphs based on linguistic, graphotactical principles for German and English. Some of this stuff was very experimental, other features seemed quite useful, e.g. visual grouping of triple letters (as in Brennnessel) and round u-based (instead of v-based) w and y when (probably) being used as (semi-)vowels or second halves of diphthong digraphs.
Since I am inexperienced and untalented when it comes to vector drawing, I limited myself to simple changes to sans-serif Biolinum shapes at the time, working in Glyphs.app. Would you be interested in contributions like that? and how should they be done?
