Feature request: improve clarity in the wording of the "only show on hotkey" option

UPDATE: after becoming aware there was a setting to do what I originally desired, my suggestion now is to improve the wording of that setting so that users are more likely to understand what it does. (See my comment below for full details.)

Ah, yes, that's what I wanted. I had seen that option and didn't realize what it was for.

I would request changing the default. Additionally, I think one of the following would be easier for new users to understand:

(Checked by default) Show Toastify for every new song (Unchecked by default) Disable Toastify from appearing for every new song

The first explains it to the user the way I personally imagined to be best. The second explains it closer to the way that it seems the dev intended it to be used/understood. I think that either would be clear to users, but the current one is not, at least to me, because it is not stated what the alternative to "only when hotkey pressed" would be. (Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm guessing not :)

Also, I'm not yet a frequent user of Github; is it preferred to modify the issue to my current suggestion/request, or mark it closed and create a new one, or just leave it to have the comment to show my current understanding and suggestion?

This depends on the project it's size and their maintainers. I think for here: Just change the title and add a remark at the top about the changed focus. Or add a new issue, up to you.
