PS3 freezing at boot with latest webman version

Open brandbox23 opened this issue 3 years ago • 13 comments

So, I use a seagate 1tb hdd, working great sice the beginning, with some crashes because of missing covers months ago maybe, anyway, I recently installed the new version of wm, but now the console freezes after booting unless I disconnect my hdd, what I don't get it, is that 1.37.47 was working good without issues with my hdd, as soon as I updated the newest version, it crashes at the beginning, I tried going back to the previous version but now that version crashes as well....

First we need to identify if this is a hardware issue, a system software issue or an application issue.

If the freeze also happens with sman or webMAN MOD 1.47.36, the issue could be related to hardware or system software.

The next thing to test would be to go to recovery menu and try the options 2, 3, 4, 5. Going to recovery menu deletes /boot_plugins.txt, so you will have to reinstall webMAN MOD to test.

If the problem persists, try reinstalling the CFW.

As last resort would be to try with a different HDD. Other hardware issues would require technical service.

I recommend that backup your home directory, sync your trophies, get your console id (idps+psid) and get the EID0 Root Keys just to avoid any data lost.

Also try getting additional advices from other users at PSX-PLACE forums. There are experts that could give you other ideas.

@aldostools I don't think it's a hardware issue, because after I removed webman, the console didn't freeze anymore, also, when booting games from other launchers they work without problems...

If you have USB devices attached, disconnect them. If the system boots, go to /setup.ps3 and check "Disable content scanning at startup'. Save and reboot with the USB devices attached.

That option may cause issues on certain systems due the the content scanning consumes a large amount of memory.

@aldostools if it works, how do I do in the future if I add other games, just select update game list from webman setup??

Scan the content manually using webMAN Games > webMAN Setup > Refresh XML or Refresh XML & Reload XMB

or use the combo SELECT+L3 then reload XMB.

@aldostools unfortunately, it still freezes... I mean when I select update game list, then it remains frozen again, I think I'll give up, it's incredible how a small update screwed the compatibility with my hdd... I can try using another hdd but I think it may be the same result, as it is another seagate

If 1.47.37 was working, there is not reason why it is not working now.

Anyway if you decide to try again, test with 1.47.36 and uninstall the previous version before update, just in case the config is corrupted.

@aldostools I tried using 1.47.36 as you said, and it works again... but now the titles of the games are with title id as they are after converting them to iso, I tried updating the game list but still remains the same

@aldostools is it possible to find the config file with saved settings to delete it and to set everything again??

brandbox23 avatar Mar 25 '22 16:03 brandbox23

Try adjusting your settings in /setup.ps3 or delete /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_config.bin

After that you can try to update to the latest build again or return to 1.47.36 if the issue persists.

@aldostools quick update, so I deleted the config.bin file from the file manager as you said, and it worked, now the game list shows the correct titles again, as well as the covers, thanks, I think I'll get stuck with 1.47.36 for now... but I think a fix will be done on future versions hopefully

It would worth to try the latest build again. If it still doesn't work, then delete the config and stick in 1.47.36

@aldostools quick update, nothing worked, I updated to 1.47.39 last week, and the console still freezes when my hdd is plugged in, I will get stuck with 1.47.36 that works without issues at the moment, until I buy a different hdd to try, but idk maybe next year, in the meanwhile what matters is that my hdd is able to let me play from it
