[Question] Extract covers Pack pkg contents for PSX/PS2 games
I want to extract the .png files from the pack and repack it myself into the format you described (with PScoverBOX). As they show stretched out to the full size and I prefer this style:
Is this possible?
You can use TrueAncestor PKG Repacker or PKGView or pkg_custom to extract the PKG.
Replace the files that you want to change. Then create a new PKG from the folder using TrueAncestor PKG Repacker or make_package_npdrm or pkg_custom.
Alternatively you can skip the extraction of the PKG and just create a new PKG following the same folder structure.
I was able to extract the PKG using PS3GameExtractor & my plan was to convert the PS2 coverart and then just FTP the files to "game\BLES80608\USRDIR\covers_retro" or will i need to repackage a pkg and install it that way?
Yes, you can copy the image files directly using FTP server if you prefer.
Also multiMAN has a feature that extract ZIP files to specific directories if you name the file using the extraction path.
Example: PS3~dev_hdd0~game~BLES80608~USRDIR~covers_retro.zip
This method is equivalent to create a PKG and can be convenient to avoid transfer hundreds of small files.
Ok sweet, ive converted all the coverart, I think ill try that since copying 10k image files over FTP... i keep getting disconnects :(
Start with a small ZIP with just a few images to make sure that it's working as expected.
After you validate it, you can create the ZIP will all the files.
Ok sounds good. Am i just navigating to the .zip with the correct filename and opening it to extract in webMAN file manager?
Although webMAN MOD can extract ZIP files too, the feature is just an experiment.
I recommend you that use multiMAN's FIle Manager. Navigate to the ZIP file and press X on the file (or O for the context menu). I don't remember very well, since I used that feature many years ago.
So it extracted over successfully but not automatically populating the new .png... is it compatible with png or is it just defaulting to jpg and i would have to delete said files?
EDIT
I ended up renaming the psx for to psxOG and re-extracting it and that fixed it up :)
@aldostools Hey, so I've repacked the PS2 png boxarts. When i was googling this I saw a lot of people asking for it, would it be cool for me to upload it to archive.com? Or somewhere else that you would advise.
You can share it in archive.com if you prefer.
I could include the package in the resources repository if you share the link.
