Webman causing XMB to hang, file system to corrupt after exchange HDD
Hello, I used the Debug exchange HDD tool to upgrade HDD size, but the PS3 XMB does not load after the Evilnat logo. I hear the fan speed ramp up which tells me Webman was running in the background. I used the restore mode to restore the file system which notes the FS is corrupted, and this returns the XMB, minus Webman. When I reinstall Webman MOD, I do not see the text flash that says "Installing Webman Mod full...". My controller disconnects and the system restarts and hangs on the wave animation on startup. I've repeated the process three times , making sure no USB devices are attached, and trying the standard install instead of full and the result is the same.
Before using the HDD exchange utility, I used the unlock HDD space tool to regain that 7% previously reserved if that would make a difference. How can I fix this?
Thanks everyone for assistance
Verify that Cobra is enabled, then reinstall webMAN MOD.
Verify that /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt exists and that the file contains a line like this:
/dev_hdd0/plugins/webftp_server.sprx
If webMAN is already installed, install this PKG to update webMAN MOD to the latest build: https://aldostools.org/ps3/webMAN_MOD_latest.pkg
The hang issue could be that your hard drive is accessing bad sectors. You should try with another HDD.
Thanks Aldo I appreciate your work
Cobra was disabled, but re-enabling it didn't fix the issue unfortunately. I'm using the latest version of the tool. Rebuilding the database also restores the XMB in addition to restoring the file system. The drives SMART report seems to indicate it's ok. Is there anything else I can try to get this working? Before formatting and reinstalling all that data ☹️
The exact process is this
- Restore FS/ Rebuild Database brings back XMB, deletes webMAN
- Enable Cobra, Reboot
- Launch webMAN installer, black screen, restart, fan speed increase
- Stuck on wave animation
Try to revert the changes done by the "Debug exchange HDD tool". I haven't used that tool before and I don't know if it cause compatibility issues with webMAN MOD.
Then repeat the steps with the USB drives unplugged. webMAN MOD performs a scan during the startup that can cause issues.
If you have a large collection of ROMS, PSXISO, PS3ISO, etc. in the internal HDD try renaming the folders to prevent the scanning of these folders. At least until you get webMAN MOD working. You can do this if the issue still persists.
If the problem persists, you could try formatting the HDD.
Is there anywhere in the PS3 filesystem where webMAN files are stored that could cause a fresh install to error out? Maybe remnants of the webMAN installation from the old HDD got transferred over which need to be recreated for the new drive, causing it to hang. The debug exchange tool is like the data transfer utility without all of the restrictions, and does a complete transfer of the drives contents to my knowledge.
If there's no webMAN related files of this sort I'll just format it
webMAN MOD checks if /dev_hdd0/xmlhost/game_plugin/mygames.xml exists.
If it doesn't exist, it performs a scan on the default drives (HDD0, USB000 and USB001).
If you have a large number of games in these storage devices, the scanning may take a long time and it affect the startup. That's why I recommend to unplug the USB drives to reduce the number of games to scan the first time.
back to WebMAN MOD 1.47.27 + 4.92 , working again, no more hang xmb
I don't know if it could be related to your issue, but there is a know bug with the resources copied to /dev_hdd0/tmp/system_plugin
Deleting that folder and rebooting should solve the issue related to these resources.
A similar issue could happen if you have a wrong version copied in /dev_hdd0/tmp/explore_plugin.sprx
"Thank you very much, I'm going to try checking those files. If I want to do a clean installation with the latest version, which files should I delete?"
For a clean installation, uninstall webMAN MOD from the webMAN Games > webMAN Setup menu.
It will delete all the files related to webMAN MOD, including the aforementioned files. After reboot you can reinstall webMAN MOD again.
I used the HDD exchange tool in a CECHA01 CFW PS3 and got the same error, when the process for the new HDD was done it was stuck on the wave menu, i had to reboot it, enter safe mode and rebuild the database, after doing that Webman was uninstalled and when trying to install it i got the same error (stuck on wave menu), however what i did was uninstalling the old pkg, then creating syscalls (didnt check if they were enabled before doing so, but i did just in case), and after that i just redownloaded the webman 1.47.48 pkg, installed the full version, and it worked ok, it also imported all the settings from the pre hdd exchange webman.
