Load sLaunch Menu - Freezes PS3
I have a CFW PS3 slim Firmware: 4.91 CEX Cobra 8.5
I'm using https://hub.docker.com/r/shawly/ps3netsrv/ on my synology It runs "game folder" format games
I just updated to the latest webman-mod version, every time I try to "load sLaunch Menu" the PS3 freezes, I'll have to force restart it.
I can still load games through XMB webMan Games/ PLAYSTATION3, but launching sLaunch Menu freezes the whole PS3 whether through the XMB or a Shortcut.
I tried deleting everything and re-installing, deleting the tmp folder, nothing worked, I guess the docker ps3netsrv needs to be updated.
Does it freeze only with remote games? Or with local games stored in the internal HDD?
It would be helpful if you could show some examples (more than 1 if possible) indicating the full path of the game being mounted.
Also explain in which exact moment it freezes: pressing X on sLaunch menu, navigating the menu, when the game is launched, etc.
A short video or a few pictures of the process also would help to try to reproduce the bug.
EDIT: By the way, you could try updating to 4.92 Evilnat. There were many betas for 4.91 and some of these betas were unstable.
Just to clarify, Games do not freeze, (they work fine both on hdd and remotely)
I just cannot launch the "sLaunch Menu" anymore, everytime I try to open the "sLaunch Menu" it freezes my PS3
I'll upload a recorded video from my phone
I'll also update to 4.92 now and let you know
Updated to 4.92, the problem still persists.
It freezes when pressing X on sLaunch menu

That issue could be caused by some corrupted entry or file name in sLaunch's game list /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/slist.bin
You could try deleting that file and re-scanning your games with prepISO.
I recommend to test with a small set of games (e.g. disconnect all your USB devices and disable ps3netsrv connections) to scan only the games in the internal HDD.
If sLaunchMOD shows fine, add gradually the external devices until you find which device has the game that is causing the freeze.
Thank you for the prompt replies. It's 5:50am here 😅 will continue tomorrow.
I'll do as you said and keep you posted. I'll go over everything thoroughly.
FYI, On the internal HDD I have psn only games. All my games are in "Folder Format" on net0 available through my docker PS3NETServer
I have been doing some tests and I found that some PSX covers can cause issues on the layout 10x4.
Finally, after a ton amount of testing and refreshing xml, I have found the issue.
"sLaunch Menu" will freeze and not launch if the number of my items exceeds 910 (911 or more games)
I only have ps3 games under "GAMES" folder, all my other folders are clean. Also, I made sure there are no duplicates whatsoever in my games collection.
This is not true........
I thought the same when I had that many games on my HDD.......lol
Actually, I'm archiving every single:
- PS3 physical disc games (+all updates and DLCs)
- Digital downloads only games (+all updates and DLCs)
I'm also removing all duplicates, and categorizing them:
- PS2 Remasters
- Other consoles and arcades ports (HD Remakes)
- Exclusives that are still on PS3 only
- Games with LAN support
- Games with 4-Splitscreen
- etc...
I'm also making sure its RPCS emulator friendly, and one click away to play.
It is a huge project that requires a lot of effort, once completed will be sharing it publicly.
I think making these games easily accessible puts pressure on profit-greedy gaming companies to recognize that players deserve ownership of their games. Rather than hurting sales, this approach would actually boost appreciation, build a stronger fan base, and leave a lasting legacy.
OK. closing this issue since no further feedback received. and I still don't know if the issue was soley due to the game limit from sLaunch or not judging by the post from different people.
The issue is solely due to the game limit from sLaunch, and it's still not fixed.

So up to 910 games there's no crashing behavior? could you tell me what your memory consumption is like when you have 910 games listed on sLaunch? I have hard time finding that significant number (910 or 911) that could possibly limit the ability to display on sLaunch code. any thoughts @aldostools ?
Yes up to 910 there is no crash whatsoever, everything is perfect.
The moment there are 911 items or more, sLaunch would not launch and would freeze the whole ps3 console (I must hard reset it)
I'll try to check the memory consumption and let you know (though when the console freezes I cannot read anything anymore, even remotely through webman ip address)

The max games defined as 2000 and in theory it should list up to 1999 I think.
I think we are running out of memory given that the plugin runs on top of webMAN MOD..
Please find attached screenshot I took it remotely while slaunch is open on my PS3 with 910 games
Please note that all 910 games are available remotely and not on the PS3's HDD
https://youtu.be/bI0pLCLyEHw?si=asR21VIYJ2hoAruO I provided a video with similar issues.....SLaunch freezes when viewing the grid or layout that fits more games per page...... I had the same problem like @ezdahmad had at first. Best alternative is to just load the games straight from the XMB. Any other advice?....might be a memory issue, my memory is almost maxed out when using webman MOD full edition.
I believe i solved this issue. It is the jpgs oddball size that is causing the crash, probably due to the attempted sizing of the frame when selected. Use the size of a picture that doesnt crash slaunch when selecting. It works great for me... now :)
One more tidbit, All my PS1 games (on USB) pictures work fine after resizing and for PS3 iso games on HDD0 you just need to put a desired jpg in the folder where iso is. (I always put the iso's in its own directory within PS3ISO folder. (name the jpg the same as the iso)
Hello @kipper2000 Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the covers with a big size can cause crashes or freeze issues due the high memory consumption and the limited memory available.
It's recommended to use small or medium sizes for the pictures. Recommended cover sizes can be found in the wiki https://github.com/aldostools/webMAN-MOD/wiki/Game-Paths-&-Covers#covers

yah, took me a little while to figure it out, i found the best size is 256 x 320 :) I use XNview classic to modify the images... it's free and has lots of features
