Hm, there are duplicated commits here now. But that's OK, I'll be able to rebase it on top of master when merging.

I'll try to test this and merge it this week.

Current status of the PR

I've managed to launch chatty (through Alher) with SSL on my laptop multiple times, which produces something along the lines of

15:29:01 [freenode] -!- Alheran [[email protected]]
15:29:01 [freenode] -!-  ircname  : BEAM
15:29:01 [freenode] -!-  channels : #QueerDev
15:29:01 [freenode] -!-  server   : sendak.freenode.net [Vilnius, Lithuania, EU]
15:29:01 [freenode] -!-           : is using a secure connection

However, once I run the bot on one of my servers, the TCP connection is closed after irc_handshake (on freenode, so it seems unrelate with #9).

I'd need someone else to run the code on their machine, and maybe being enlightened about the reason.
