Could we also get this to work with a common image formats (e.g. TIFF, PNG etc..) with pandas metadata? I think that would be very useful for many projects

Ah - actually, I think I misunderstood this - you mean the output would be numpy + dataframe?

I'm not sure I understand this issue @ots22 - should we close it? Is it the same as #260 ?

Edited the description to make it clearer what this was about. Not the same as #260, which is about predict rather than load_dataset. Think we can close (at least for now/until we're more sure about the way forward with Intake).
