Subtask scheduling/and or soft due dates
Problem/Feature So my main issue with todoist was not being able to designate a certain task for a specific date. For example, I might have a problem set due on Wednesday, but I would like to put a "soft due date" for Monday. Designating tasks for certain days of the week without setting a due date is essentially what I'm getting at.
Suggested solution If there could be a separate button, like there is to set a due date, to assign a task for a certain day of the week, and then maybe have it show up on the Today tab (and when you sort by date). For example, maybe I could say "Mow the lawn planned Tuesday due Thursday", which would create a task with a hard due date of Thursday but a soft one of Tuesday.
Alternatives considered I've tried using tags to schedule what I want done for the day, but it's super high maintenance and is essentially useful for 1 day at a time. Others have suggested to me to schedule one main task and then several subtasks which have earlier due dates than the main one to fit the need, but unfortunately Planner doesn't seem to support subtask scheduling.
Final thoughts. This might be better suited for a plugin, and I would understand why this wouldn't be a feature, but if there is one thing that could be improved I think subtask scheduling would solve this problem for the most part with the least amount of work.
I'd like this feature too. Instead of calling it "soft due date", it's rather planning/organizing.
Would the reminder system be useful in your case? You can add multiple reminders to a single task, seperate from its due date
I'm not sure if reminders would fit the bill for me. I personally would like to be able to see the task in my upcoming, plus I have all my notifications disabled.
To solve this issue and others, I am thinking of adding the feature of custom fields per project, it can be of type text, date, boolean, etc., that way it would be configurable by the user.
