Database Requirements of MySQL >= 5.7.8

Is MariaDB >= 10.3 also supported, as far as I know the requirement for MySQL 5.7 was due to the Json data type which was not available in older MariaDB versions. With MariaDB >=10.2.7 there is a JSON alias. Would it therefore be possible to extend the requirements to MariaDB in the appropriate version?
