anet board detected but not syncing

Trying to flash Marlin to my anet board. It's powered, it just refuses to sync, as per attached image

Using Mac El Capitan, compile set to sanguino 1284p all default settings for Anet A8 firmware, marlin 1.1.9

Use MELZI board when compiling.
