My initial investigation into this suggested it's not at all straightforward in V8 to eliminate the extra check. Curious for @msaboff's thoughts.

My opinion is that changing this isn't worth any runtime cost at all. I'd be curious for @bterlson's opinion on that question as well.

Hate to tie this in to other bike-shedding, but it would be good if whatever naming scheme we choose matches TC39's naming scheme for internal modules (if they do arise).

Speaking to implementation progress: in V8/Chromium, we are currently working on supporting source phase imports for loading WebAssembly modules as source (tracked in https://issues.chromium.org/issues/42204365). We are not currently prioritizing work...
