Search: Close Keyboard

Open AzzyC opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Issue: After completing app search query and swiping back once to close the keyboard, it cancels the search. Most occasions, apps in the search query list are hidden / blocked by the view of the keyboard

Expect to happen: Initial swipe when keyboard is open is to close keyboard only In communication apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, you do not exit conversation screen directly, just keyboard is closed initially

This is driving me absolutely mad! It looks like the main GitHub page is in Chinese, can they read English and do they understand the issue? Updated to 1.9 and the behavior is the same. What phones are these people using? Or is this just normal and they have big giant ass phone so I keyboard covering part of the screen doesn't matter? Why is my phone's keyboard behavior causing a problem?

Why is my phone's keyboard behavior causing a problem?

For me it is only happening with SwiftKey but GoogleBoard (GBoard) is fine and hides correctly.

For me when I use this app I have to switch SwiftKey to floating mode to see apps covered by the keyboard.

Not ideal but this app is only clean and functional otherwise.

Clearly then as nothing to do with my phone or Its behavior and it's the app that is not handling the appropriate response correctly. I was looking at stock exchange code where developers have asked how to appropriately handle the keyboard hide callback without interpreting it as a back gesture. It was answered straight from Android's API docs. Meaning that this would have to be the case for most keyboards, if you install any keyboards on the play store, most of them should have this behavior. Not sure why gboard isn't doing it for you, because it does it for me.

Actually I misremembered what I had to do with GBoard that has a specific keyboard down button that I had to press. It is definitely down to the apps behaviour in responding to the swipes. Sadly we have minimal attention on this issue.
