AIP 65: Deploy AirSwap on Arbitrum

Summary

• There is demand for AirSwap trades on Arbitrum (https://arbitrum.io/), a next generation layer 2 for Ethereum dApps.
• Arbitrum is EVM compatible but we may encounter timestamp issues that could impact orders with shorter expiries. Contributors would investigate further.

Specification

• Deploy AirSwap v3 contracts on Arbitrum.
• Front-ends will have the ability to integrate AirSwap once deployed.
• Swap fees assessed on AirSwap will be the same as ETH mainnet.

Arbitrum is EVM compatible. However, timestamps provided by Arbitrum blocks may not be reliable in the shorter time scale, which affects the way quotes expire in the short term (https://developer.offchainlabs.com/docs/time_in_arbitrum). This may not be an issue for OTC swaps, where expiries are long enough to be reliably estimated.

Rationale

AirSwap’s mission is to become the standard DeFi protocol for peer-to-peer trading. From AIP 49, the AirSwap DAO has established a multi chain strategy to prioritize rolling out AirSwap protocols to various chains. We have already successfully deployed on ETH, AVAX, BSC, and Polygon.

Arbitrum is an open-source cryptocurrency platform developed by Offchain Labs. It operates as a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum aiming to bring scalability and affordable transactions for ETH network users.

Several Arbitrum projects are interested to use AirSwap OTC contracts. One of them will use AirSwap as a base to develop their NFT Marketplace, with AirSwap taking 0.07% of their volume.

AirSwap’s unique OTC protocols would be valuable to these projects, and we should deploy our contracts quickly there to take advantage of it. We will also continue to actively reach out to projects on the Arbitrum network who might be interested in integrating AirSwap OTC protocols.
