AIP 55: Activities and Rewards

Summary

• Defines five contributor activities to replace existing roles.
• Monthly voting cycle and single allocation circle and single reward pool.
• Monthly contributor rewards ($30K) denominated in USD and distributed as AST.
• Voting rewards remain unchanged.

Specification

Existing roles (Developer, Ambassador, Author) will be replaced by the following contributor activities.

Each activity has its own mandate and set of tools. Contributors may participate in one or more activities.

• Direction — Identify and communicate opportunities. Specify new products and features for us to design, develop, and deliver. Help capture and draft proposals to be presented for acceptance by the community at large.
• Design — Work with product and developers to visualize ideas and translate product specifications into user interfaces through research, user experience design, visual design and digital art production.
• Development — Develop and maintain codebases and protocols; implement product specifications and designs; uphold rigorous security engineering practices and maintain an adversarial mindset against our own products.
• Delivery — Communicate the value of our products to desired audiences through available media channels; create bridges between ours and mutually beneficial communities; pursue and facilitate technology integrations.
• Ops — Manage project accounts and services; moderate Discord server and other community channels; coordinate project wallet distributions.

The existing 4-week cycle will be replaced by a 1-month cycle.

• Cycles run monthly starting February 1, 2022
• Next cycle is December 11, 2021 to February 1, 2022
• Votes and allocation run for 4 days (from 1st to 4th of each month)
• Voting rewards remain unchanged

All contributors will join a single circle and single reward pool.

• $30K of AST per cycle distributed to contributors (marked to market at distribution)
• All contributors participate in a single Coordinape allocation circle
• Contributors start with 100 GIVE for the Coordinape allocation process

Rationale

• Replacing roles with activities offers better fluidity across contributor activities and easier to understand opportunities for newcomers.
• Simplifying to a monthly cycle, a single Coordinape circle, and a single AST reward pool denominated in USD should make the contributor process easier to participate in.
• Adjustments to the reward pool can be proposed to the community during the regular monthly voting period.
