Adobe Animate and Bodymovin / Lottie

Open riscovo opened this issue 5 years ago • 182 comments

Hi!

we would be forever grateful to get Bodymovin/Lottie working ion Adobe Animate CC.

This software is the former 'Flash', and it is not the same as Adobe After Effects.

We are really looking forward for some good news, I find more and more people asking for the same.

Cheers!

@riscovo I haven't heard this request that much. If it gets enough traction, I might consider it in the future.

+1 I'd like to have Bodymovin in Animate too!

If I may elaborate: – Animate was designed for vector-based animation in the first place, contrary to After Effects. – After Effects certainly allows doing more or less the same as Animate, but obviously when you're an Animate expert, you need a lot of work before you can reach the same level of skill on After Effects. – After Effects probably has interesting features for advanced animation (effects, expressions...) but as far as I could see, they are not always rendered through Bodymovin. So from this viewpoint, these features are not really a benefit compared to Animate. – As far as I'm concerned, After Effects is VERY unstable (on Windows 10). While 4 or 5 Adobe apps can easily run simultaneously, AE usually crashes on startup (9 times out of 10), even when nothing else is running. And when I finally get to the point of opening a project and working on it, it usually ends with a "lack of memory" warning and crash. I never experience that with Animate (unless a lot of apps are running at the same time, and a lot of large projects are loaded). – Copy-paste from Illustrator seems to require a whole lot of painful rework in AE, while in Animate, it's quite straightforward.

(However, I'm aware that my lack of expertise in AE might be to blame for some of these drawbacks.)

Yes please, that would make design and handover so much easier!

kramskramer avatar Jun 04 '19 15:06 kramskramer

Yes please! It would save me heaps of time if I could use bodymovin with Animate.

Thanks for the message ajayvrajan. Actually all I did is to post this request, all the thanks and credits are for @bodymovin, we all are in you hands!

oh man just found this thread I'd totally love if this is available for Adobe Animate as well! As much as I want to relearn / pickup After Effects again it's just too much of a commitment and cost right now.

there is something cooking, but it's not in my hands right now. We'll see if it works.

Yes @deesnay, I undersign everything you just wrote. I don't understand how it even happened that people started using AE for animating interactive assets for native UIs. It is a software designed to make compositing, visual effects and motion graphics for rendered applications (aka: movies, videos). Likely the 99.9% of the AE's video effects are not at all compatible with - for example - translation and integration into native code for iOS and Android. And it is not even done for interactive (real time - code driven) contents!

Adobe Animate instead is basically done for doing that job. My theory: people (and also the people at Adobe) did not understand that Animate is much more than "Flash player" and SWF proprietary movies, and also not just publish with AIR. Animate has a massive potential for producing interactive assets for the real, current App development world. So yes again, I totally undersign your words.

Hey @bodymovin, this sounds amazing. Can I support? Like do you need some testing or so.

Tell us more, you are teasing us now :)

+1 from my team. Bodymovin plugin for Animate would be v useful. Happy to pay for the plugin.

@bodymovin I would be happy to help them. Can you put us in contact please?

riscovo avatar Jul 08 '19 08:07 riscovo

I asked if there was a roadmap for this in another issue queue before finding this. I've found this vendor that seems to be more promising than using AE/bodymovin. https://www.haikuforteams.com Note I am not affiliated with haikuforteams and exploring their free trial now.

sebinievas avatar Jul 26 '19 20:07 sebinievas

I asked if there was a roadmap for this in another issue ...

Thanks for sharing. I think Haiku has it's own timeline and animation editor, I am not aware it can import animations from Adobe Animate. Can you link me to a specific reference page?

riscovo avatar Jul 29 '19 16:07 riscovo

@riscovo you are correct! I haven't been able to import anything from animate CC either. :( These felt like a workaround from using AE. Still hoping for bodymovin animate cc support. @bodymovin is there a ballpark of when this may come or if it's even on the table at all?

Hi Guys,

I am the Product Manager for Adobe Animate. It is great to see all the support from the Lottie/Bodymovin users for Animate. It will be awesome to have Bodymovin onboard. In fact, one of the interns created a working prototype of the Lottie plug-in for Animate. We will be happy to share the prototype for further development and provide any/all support required to take this forward.

Those who'd like to try out the prototype plug-in can join our pre-release here - http://adobe.ly/20AEkbJ

Also, if you are interested in speaking or sharing your thoughts directly, you can reach out to me at [email protected]

Thanks, Ajay

Hey, I've installed the pre-released version via your link. The plugin you mentioned is nowhere to be found. I went through the pre-release docs, there is no reference to Lottie. Same goes for adobe pre-release forums. Could you please elaborate? many people would love to help and contribute back.

Thanks.

Wavez avatar Aug 23 '19 12:08 Wavez

Just a quick update. The plug-in is yet to be posted on the pre-release. We need to clean it up and add some documentation. We will try to make it available by mid next week.

Thank you very much for the interest. I am sure we will find a way to take this forward.

shuklaaj avatar Aug 24 '19 03:08 shuklaaj

Hi,

Please give us a couple of days to clean up the plug-in and add some documentation. We will try to have it available in the pre-release shortly.

Thanks, Ajay
