A winding machine can wrap a wire around a core made from ceramic or metal or plastic to create resistors, inductors, and ~~transformers~~ DC/DC converter cores.

A resistor is made by wrapping the resistive wire around a ceramic core and then coating it

An inductor can be wrapped around a plastic (air) core, or around a piece of metal.

A DC/DC core can be crafted similarly to the inductors, except there would also be two pieces of metal that make it a square.

Probably best to debrand back to Transformer and make the DCDC its own thing.

Transformer would be an item in this case, but we don't do AC so it would not be a block.

The item you place would be a DC/DC.

This is very likely to end up in Processing Age, and not in Electrical Age.

The spooler and unspooler have very similar in-world crafting methods, seen above.

The crafting is very flexible, and is started with a metal plate or a X shape of wooden planks.

Given different crafting recipes designed around the spooler, rods that can be inserted are varied - if you’re making a resistor, you may insert a ceramic rod as the central insulator that the resistive wire is put around. Inductors are similar in this respect, and when they are removed, the rod comes out as part of the component, and you’re left with a metal plate or wooden plank X on the ground.

Automation around these systems is another interesting issue, and it will likely be done with a robot centered over the device, and it would be able to add/remove spools, rods, and components such as resistors and inductors created on it, and put/pull them from conveyor belts or something of the like. Very similar to Immersive Engineering belts, although something with just outfeed rollers may also be used.

The manual spooler has to be operated by the player. No automation methods will be provided.

The unspooler allows for cable to be unspooled into a system, and does not need to be powered or cranked. The manual unspooler will allow the spool to rotate freely if the player does not hold it in place, and at high velocities, this may result in the crank becoming a projectile.

TODO:

Reformat document here to have more reasonable section headings and logical divisions, perhaps split out crafting into multiple images Crafting for motor housing and internal components Crafting for crank (should be simple woodworking) Crafting for spool (should be simple woodworking) Can/should spools be made from metal?
