random `WebGL: CONTEXT_LOST_WEBGL: loseContext: context lost` on a relatively simple page.

Open kylebakerio opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

Description:

  • A-Frame Version: 1.2.0
  • Platform / Device: Quest 2
  • Reproducible Code Snippet or URL: https://8-2021-naf.glitch.me/tracked-controllers.html

Page crashes, especially if attempting to enter VR as soon as possible. The log warning before the crash is just

WebGL: CONTEXT_LOST_WEBGL: loseContext: context lost
three.js:18936 THREE.WebGLRenderer: Context Lost.

No stack trace, no other clues.

I haven't investigated pulling pieces out yet, will remove environment and see if that fixes it. Issue seems somewhat intermittent at this point, but will update here if I get to the bottom of it.

This page features hand-controls, environment 1.2.0, and networked A-Frame latest. Will pull those pieces out and see which fixes it. Just putting this here for now partially as a reminder to me to investigate later.

It's intermittent, but I did get the issue even after removing the environment component. I did not get the issue after removing networked-aframe. Without any more insight, hard to say what the actual source of thie issue is--it's a very basic scene all around. Sure would be nice to get a better error. Any tips on digging deeper into this issue from the error handling side?

What does enter VR as soon as possible mean?

Just clicking the 'vr' button A-Frame creates in the bottom right as soon as it's visible. I haven't for sure confirmed that that is relevant, though--just mentioning what I've done the handful of times I saw this bug. I just know at least one time I slowed down and it then the issue didn't occur, but I really need to experiment with it more before I'm sure that's relevant.

Is this still an issue?

I don't recall running into it recently, but I haven't been working on that project(s?) I recall seeing it in.

It's stale, I think it's safe to close. Can open a new one and reference this if I see it again.

When I do see this issue, it seems to just be the result of the page crashing. This can be from out of memory (resulting from memory leak or other), or presumably other things.

Just wish I had some better error message when it happens, but I think that's just how it goes.
