Confusion TRANSFER_IN and TRANSFER_OUT
Hello,
I just realise I really dont understand TRANSFER_IN & TRANSFER_OUT.
I have two brokers account and I transfered some equities (stocks) from brokerA_account to another brokerB_account. How do I model this behaviour with Weathfolio?
In properties of TRANSFER_IN/TRANSFER_OUT, there's no from->to accounts, if you know what I mean...
Should I instead use REMOVE_HOLDING from Account A and use ADD_HOLDING in Account B?
I think they want you to just mirror the transactions on each account. TRANSFER_OUT on the source and TRANSFER_IN on the target. The activity reference docs seems to suggest that TRANSFER_IN/OUT should allow quantities of shares but as far as I can tell it only allows you to specify a cash amount so this actually does not work. I guess ADD/REMOVE holding would work but you'll lose your cost basis history. Seems like a bug or just unimplemented feature.
@bolapara That what I thought, can @afadil confirm?
I think, we need a transfer in kind.
It seems there is a bug, as it currently only works for cash. For the current version, please use ADD_HOLDING/REMOVE_HOLDING with the average cost basis. We need to improve the transfer in and out between accounts in future versions.
Ideally you'd be able to transfer over a holding while retaining individual lot data
Reading the docs it seemed to imply that it would keep your cost basis if you transferred, however I've done this for an account i moved with X gains, and if i make the empty account "non-active" I lose the gained % from portfolio so it doesn't really keep the cost basis.
An extra option TRANSFER_OUT_IN with both senting and receiving Account would be a great option for me. Almost all transfers I need introducion 2 transactions, one for the outgoing account and another for the receiving account..
The CSV import doesn't seem to work for this either. I tried doing an ADD_HOLDING and REMOVE_HOLDING import via CSV and even though I specified the stock quantity it shows up as 0's in the activity log.
I am also unsure of what to specify for the Cost Base for transferring shares OUT of an account, I was hoping that is the kind of thing Wealtfolio could help calculate for me using FIFO. As it gets a bit confusing with many transactions.
Hi, Raison why a tried to avoid Buy/Sell for transfer was also FIFO to calculate taxes that will arrive in Belgium. Dirk
