Option to download, when sharing a post/comment as image

Open sharunkumar opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

Currently its only possible to send the image to another app. It would be great if there was a download option in the share-as-image modal

Update: it looks like its possible to long press the image on the modal in the PWA version. But a button to invoke the download would be a better ux

I'm really desperate for this feature. I love this feature (sharing as image) but I'm unable to use it because my phone's sharing feature is junky and doesn't want to work for me. Even when I try to "share" it to a folder somewhere on my phone it fails as well.

Because of that I have to opt out to taking multiple screenshots in a row to capture the thread I want. (Which by the way my ass phone sometimes fails to save and won't notify me about that either. 😭)

What OS? Do you have a pic of your phones share dialog? I want to make sure I understand the issue completely :)

Phone: Redmi Note 8T (Released in 2019 and discontinued support in 2023)

OS: MIUI Global 12.5.6 (Android 11)

Sharing: (GOD, those screenshots are so large on github)

And just to clarify, it doesn't seem to be a problem with the app but with this phone's software in general. Like for example it reeeeeaaalllyyyy struggles with keeping the apps cached even for a few seconds (turning off battery optimisation does nothing) when I go outside them so I lose where I left off. This may also be why sharing fails? Idk anymore, I'm tired of this phone.

In the meantime, a workaround would be installing a file manager. Many of them will appear in the share menu so you can share a file to it and choose the folder to save it in. I use Cx File Manager, but if you want an open source option Material Files is good.

Funnily enough Material Files (or maybe the Android filesystem) doesn't play well with the naming scheme. The "." in the file name should be removed: lemmy.zip-comment-id.png

You could say the workaround needs a workaround ;)
