orefs.py : define variables for the prefices for chapterless verse references (singular & plural)

Open DavidHaslam opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

As per previous discussion, chapterless verse references may be in the form:

  • vmm for a single verse mm
  • vvmm,nn-pp for a verse sequence (mm,nn) or range (nn-pp)

e.g. English v28 vv7-11,16

Notes:

  1. These two prefices are locale dependent.
  2. They may include a period and/or a space before the verse number.

e.g. Polish w. 28 ww. 7-11,16

I'm going to have to spend a lot of time thinking about this. I can foresee many problems trying to get this right.

No hurry!

It was quite a challenge to fix these using a bespoke TextPipe filter for the Polish UBG 2017 module preparation.

The Malagasy word for "verse" is "andininy" which is abbreviated to "and." in some footnotes that have a reference.

Example:

\f + \ft Izahao and. 14.\f*

which I improved to become:

\f + \ft Izahao \+xt and. 14\+xt*.\f*

leaving the abbreviation as part of the reference.

Abbreviations like these ought to be capable of being specified in the orefs config file.
