Feature idea: add podcasts
Opening an issue as there's no discussion board on this repo.
I was thinking if you're interested in having podcasts as a category on the site. I think it fits well with the existing content, cross linking to speakers, topics, maybe events. You can auto load new episodes through rss and it gives the podcasts another angle to get promoted as I think there are a lot of high quality Ruby podcasts.
Down side is that the 'ruby events' name doesn't really cover it 🙈
What do you think?
Hey @dennispaagman, thanks for opening this issue and bringing this up.
I thought about this too in the past and decided for myself that podcasts probably don't quite fit into the bigger picture of the site, which is why I never opened an issue/ticket to work on it.
I could see how it would fit into the existing content/site, but I think RubyEvents is trying to be more the "Ruby Events companion app", which I'd say podcasts don't really fit into.
Maybe @adrienpoly has an opinion on this!
I agree that this goes beyond the current definition of an Event.
That said, when I first started RubyVideo, my vision (and personal need) was to create a way to search for all talks on a given topic (e.g., Turbo Native, AI, Domain Modeling, etc.). If we can eventually obtain transcripts for podcasts and index them properly, it could be a valuable feature for improving discoverability.
However, I think it’s still a bit too early to introduce a new content type at this stage.
I’m okay with leaving this issue open for now. While we may not be ready to accept a PR yet, it could be helpful if someone wanted to start drafting how this might look from a data modeling perspective and how it would integrate with the current site.
