Seems to me, there was an example, to use multiple selection with the FACET keyword on the old url.

What's missing imho is, the code referring to the example picture saying "Facets with multiple selection (using FACET keyword)" See: http://sphinxsearch.com/blog/2014/05/22/the-facet-feature/

Is the example code still available.
