Maintainer/contributor documentation required

As a maintainer/contributor I would like do find some detailed documentation how to get started with changes, in particular if it comes to frequent tasks:

• When a new JDK version is released, either
  • As new major JDK release,
  • As an update to an existing JDK;
• When the current version of a Linux distro (or other supported OS) is at the end of its support window, of if a new version comes up;
• When a new OS is added, or an existing one will no longer be supported.

@gdams (and others), please add more frequent use case scenarios for maintenance. @smlambert feel free to assign this to me, I already have some ideas.

Unfortunately the maintenance docs as demonstrated in todays community meeting do not (yet) render nicely on GitHub due to github/markup#1095
