Please provide a brief summary of the bug

Found this log file while cleaning up laptop. I noticed STM32CubeIDE had a glitch starting up earlier in the day.

Did you test with the latest update version?

  • [ ] Yes

Please provide steps to reproduce where possible

  • Ubuntu 25.04 was running STM32CubeIDE.

Expected Results

It to work.

Actual Results

I assume this was why STM32Cube IDE splash screen vanished and I had to re-run STMM32CubeIDE.

What Java Version are you using?

openjdk 21.0.8 2025-07-15 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 21.0.8+9-Ubuntu-0ubuntu125.04.1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0.8+9-Ubuntu-0ubuntu125.04.1, mixed mode, sharing)

What is your operating system and platform?

No response

How did you install Java?

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14788345/how-to-install-the-jdk-on-ubuntu-linux

sudo apt install openjdk-21-jdk sudo apt install openjdk-21-source #this is optional, the jdk source code

in ~/.profile add the following lines export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/default-java export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin

Did it work before?

No idea, wasn't looking for a Java failure.

Did you test with other Java versions?

No

Relevant log output

will attach core dump file.

Hi, Errrr... I'm not using 21.0.3. "Java --version" says the following.... openjdk 21.0.8 2025-07-15 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 21.0.8+9-Ubuntu-0ubuntu125.04.1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0.8+9-Ubuntu-0ubuntu125.04.1, mixed mode, sharing)

Going by the date of my java "how to install" notes file I have been on 21.0.8 since 09/09/2025. I installed Java for Kicad, but I guess STM32CubeIDE also uses it... which is the app I have been using the most lately.

As I say I only found this log file when doing a clean of my file system- which I think it must have appeared due to STM32CubeIDE mis-fire on launch the other day (log file line 22). I use STM32CubeIDE a lot and this is the first time I recall seeing it hic-cup on launching.

I just did a bit of digging into my file system after examining the log file - it seems to be referencing java paths inside the STM32 application.

..... Buried inside the STM32 application (which I installed in /opt) appears to be another java in a plugins subfolder--> /opt/st/stm32cubeide_1.19.0/plugins/com.st.stm32cube.ide.jre.linux64_3.4.0.202409160955/jre/bin

If I run "./java --version" from within that folder I get --> openjdk 21.0.3 2024-04-16 LTS OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-21.0.3+9 (build 21.0.3+9-LTS) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Temurin-21.0.3+9 (build 21.0.3+9-LTS, mixed mode)

Yep, that should get updated. Please contact the IDE provider for this
