Once tx's UFO mode supports the V option (#1035) it could perhaps replace booleanOperations/py-clipper for the overlap removal step.

I just looked at the tx overlap code for other reasons, and saw that it is implemented in the absfont library. It should be possible to support this in UFO just by adding the option. However, Ariza did note that it fails in some complex but rare cases. I think this is a good idea, but we should do a careful comparison of results before switching over.
