Loading the Variable Font Breaks Font Rendering on Windows

Open Sambo3975 opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

If I try to use the variable version of the font in Microsoft Word, I get an error as soon as I start typing, and the program stops rendering fonts altogether. I can't read the error message because it won't render it either. If I try restarting Word, I get the unreadable error message again, and the program hangs. To top it all off, fonts randomly stop rendering in my other programs, too, and I have to restart my computer to get them working right again. I don't know how you made this font, but my computer does not like it. For example, this is how my task manager looks after the error happens: image

I'm having the same issue on using variable fonts on IntelliJ IDEA. Deleting font cache, disabling font cache service got no effect. Opening IntelliJ IDEA and choose Source Code Variable and my font rendering is completely broken. My Windows version is Windows10 1903.

@Sambo3975 Are you using MacType on Windows?

Which variable font did you install, the OTF or the TTF?

I installed OTF version.

This issue is so f***ing retarded. It took me literally 8 hours trying to troubleshoot. Who would have thought that installing a font can break Windows.

For anyone having the same issue, to fix this, just uninstall the font.
