Make some characters more prominent
Hello Developers,
For comparison, I use Input: http://input.fontbureau.com/download/
These characters in Input are more prominent than Source Code Pro's:
^`,~+-*#'"
May I ask if you could consider updating Source Code Pro, to make those characters much more prominent, like in Input?
Thank you,
@ghost Do you mind posting an image comparing the characters in question from Input & SCP? Thanks.
@pauldhunt
First I wan to I apologize. I was the one who filed this issue. For personal reason I don't keep github account for long. I am very sorry for that, I never meant to be rude. I've used your fonts (Source Sans/Source Code) for years and I like them a lot. I want to thank you, very much, for your hard work.
Input states that it's free for personal use only. I don't buy a commercial license. But I think just some screenshots for this issue might not be bad.
I'm attaching screenshots:

I prefer the current characters in Source Code Pro personally. Some of the changes you're requesting look you'd get an alright result with a heavier/larger font-weight, others lose their form or aesthetic(~
needs to be vertically stretched, *
thickens outwards and adds an extra spoke changing it's design quite a bit to one I don't personally like).
Modern fonts seem to be able to offer "stylistic set" variants, so perhaps that works? Ioveska seems to do that. Input that you reference also has a way to customize the font upon download from their site. Not sure how feasible either of those are to setup.
Programming in languages that are especially dense with symbols, the bolder styles might actually be overwhelming. Having the *
not vertically centered with +
and -
would literally drive me crazy.
I’ll bump the size of these for the next update.
@pauldhunt Just to clarify, there's only one user here requesting this in the issue, no additional upvotes on it, so I'm not sure if it's a heavily desired change.
Doing so may just make an opposing issue pop up, if you wanted to cater to both, then a stylistic set/variant like Ioveska and Input seem to offer might work?
@polarathene I think there’s room to comfortably make the size/appearance of these characters a bit more prominent. I’m currently testing things out on my side and already appreciating having some of these redesigned in a way to make them more legible at smaller sizes.
