screen search document option
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. When I use screen search (SS) while editing a document, there are too many locations to choose from. The screen becomes visually overwhelming and it forces 3-key string combos rather than using only 2-key combos.
I understand that some people might use screen search to select and edit text, but I use it just to move the cursor around and press buttons without leaving the keyboard. These two different user sets for SS are sufficiently different that the tool would ideally be optimized for different uses.
Describe the solution you'd like I would like an option that would reduce the number of possible selections on the screen. This could mean limiting the number of selections in the text document to one (just to get the cursor back to the document) or to a certain reduced number (such as max one selection within a certain size pixel box).
Describe alternatives you've considered I don't know of any other programs that do what SS does, so I can't think of any alternatives.
Additional context I think that SS works by taking and parsing a screen shot, so I know it doesn't really "know" what part of the image is a document vs. toolbar vs. button. But maybe there is a way to let the user customize SS for specific programs by selecting areas of the screen where SS shouldn't parse, or should have a maximum number of combo selectors.
I don't think you will put this as a top priority (my QM requests are more important for me, at least) but I wanted to suggest it for the roadmap in any case.
Screen search is optimized for providing an hint only for the first word in each line, if you find cases it fails to do that I would appreciate if you can send me a screenshot (with and without screen search) and the display DPI. Also, you can optionally opt to use UI based engine for screen search in Settings -> Screen -> Screen search engine, which may be more useful for your use case. It's switch able by pressing TAB when screen search is active.
My display is 3840 x 2160 with text scaling at 150%. I don't know how to find DPI. I have the search engine as 'in window content'. I don't see 'UI based'. I've attached screen shots.
