issue with missing partial audio

I have been seeing last few seconds of the audio missing in the output mp4 file. I am not sure what's causing this. I am running on mac m1 monterey. Any advice is appreciated.

Haven't found the solution yet - will post here if I do

The problem is that the script is using '-shortest'. This will often cut the audio
