Opening .docx and .xlsx files only displays XML code of file

When I attempt to open a .docx or a .xlsx file on Chrome, I only get the XML code for the file. Since I am unfortunately not a computer, I can't read this easily. I believe it may have something to do with the files I'm downloading linking to style sheets that might only be attached when I download the file, but I'm no expert on the issue. It may also be worth noting that I am viewing the file from a website that requires a login. This is what it looks like when I try and open a .docx file in Chrome:

Experiencing same issue for pptx and docx file as well. Website also requires login, if that makes any difference.
