update to jruby 9.7.2

Open javier-sy opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Hello, around a year ago I did some minor modifications to jruby_for_max to be able to use it with jruby 9.7.2. Maybe you would like to merge them in your main source. Just let me know if you are interested or if would like to clarify something.

Thanks for your work!

Hi @javier-sy I'm glad you have gotten value out of the jruby Max device, and thank you for putting together this pull request.

I didn't respond because I wanted to spend some time testing your changes before merging them. I kept meaning to get around to it, but never did. The fact is I don't use this device anymore and haven't in a long time. I don't even have a Java development environment setup anymore.

At this point we can say my repository is abandoned. I don't want to change any more code here.

If you are still using the device, we could make your fork the "official" version if you want. I would do this by updating the README in this project to say it's abandoned and link to your repository as the official version.

What do you think?

Hello @adamjmurray, I understand the situation. Thank you for your answer and offering.

Now I'm not using anymore the jruby Max device but I do have a Max and a JDK environment. Unfortunately I think jruby device is not very popular in this moment.

I think the best option could be to ask for a maintainer in the beginning of the readme. I can do this myself if I'm the "official maintainer". But maybe it could be more useful to add such a note directly on your repository because it's more known.

I would suggest you to merge my changes (If I was the "official maintainer" I would do that directly because I tested it and worked in my environment for some small projects) and a note in the readme to ask for a maintainer. If you prefer not to do that I can accept that responsability without problem.

Just let me know what do you think.
