Error getting files: chdir /public_html/

Open geoffreykolbe opened this issue 4 years ago • 12 comments

Hello Adam

Shiftedit is great, I love it to bits, but a week or so back I started getting an error message (see subject) and it has not gone away. Evidently, Shiftedit is getting into the server OK, but is not able to open the public_html folder, which is where all my stuff is. I can see that Shiftedit is trying to open the public_html folder, with the two-arrows-spinning-wheel, but is unable to do so. Nothing has changed in the server, as far as I know. I am able to get into the folder using other ftp editors without any problems.

Any ideas?

Same thing here. Do you have any updates about the issue?

Hi,

Failing to get a directory listing could be due to a connection error. Make sure the ShiftEdit IPs aren't being blocked.

54.235.66.128
54.204.38.137
54.197.226.18

If you think it's something else, please send test FTP details to [email protected] and I'll investigate further.

The problem maybe has to do with pasive/active FTP connections or TLS. I have some other connections to accounts in 1on1 and Goodady and they work as usual, while with acounts in my own servers the error is about changing to public_html and getting flie list, so the connection itself don't seem to be the problem. In my server we use Pure-FTPd 1.0.49.

Other TLS connections work. Active might be an issue. Changing dir triggers the error because it is trying to do something with a broken connection. If you can send me a test FTP I will be able to dig into it.

Hello Adam Sorry to sound like a bear with a small brain, but how do I send you a test FTP?

geoffreykolbe avatar Dec 28 '20 19:12 geoffreykolbe

share the site on ShiftEdit with [email protected]

Hello Adam, I sended you a test account for you to review. For the record when I tested the account in Filezilla I've got a similar behavior until I changed to "Use only plain FTP" instead of the default "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available" on Filezilla site's manager. AFAIK it has to do with TLS and firewall/certificate problems that in some shared enviroments may arise. Would be great to have a similar option in ShiftEdit to let the user select the unsecure plain FTP as in our case that we can not configure the server firewall.

Thanks Adam, I can get at my site now. I looked for encryption in settings (cogged wheel in top right corner), but could not find it. I must be looking in the wrong place..? Best Geoffrey

Great stuff, to get into the site settings: Right-click the site dropdown and then edit.

Nah, nothing about encryption that I can find. You have hidden it well... Best Geoffrey
