Detect live songs/albums?

Open eharris opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Use case

Musicbrainz sometimes indicates if an album is Live or not, but not in any consistent way that I know of. And I don't think there's any marking of individual live tracks that may be within a studio or compilation album. I think it would be great to be able to more reliably mark individual tracks as well as whole live albums.

Solution

Add a way to detect crowd noise as a way to mark if the track/album is live or not (might be ok to just analyze the beginning and the end of the track?)

@eharris ist this something the underlying library Essentia can do? If not we can't do much about it and I suggest we close this issue. You can try over there for a feature request. https://github.com/MTG/essentia

Based on the description and demos of the project, it certainly seems like it would be something that was doable in Essentia. I would guess that my suggestion of restricting the analysis to the beginning and end of the track would likely be more reliable at detecting crowd noise than trying to do so with the whole track, since at the ends the crowd noise tends to be a bigger part of the audio signal.
