Hello everyone there! π
We're working on implementing the new Visual Studio into images. Based on the results of our internal investigation, we'll release an announcement about when and how this tool will be available to users. Stay tuned! π
@erik-bershel Visual Studio 2026 will also be on Windows Server 2022 image ?
@erik-bershel Visual Studio 2026 will also be on Windows Server 2022 image ?
No, no chances. π Most likely Windows Server 2022 will be bounded to Visual Studio 2022 until deprecation.

Ok.
Visual Studio is waiting on this image as well - is there an ETA?
By the time we get this on the runner, Visual Studio 2029 has been released π
Should we create a new Issue for DevOps? I need this yesterday!!
Hey @abbweiman!
Should we create a new Issue for DevOps? I need this yesterday!!
Nope. We are working on the image for both GHA and ADO at the same time.
Out of curiosity: is there anything in particular, some complication, blocking this? I was expecting Microsoft's systems to have incorporated their own IDE within a month.

This complicates the situation for me because I am compiling a C project for Windows using MSVC.

Yup. But we are working on it now. We'll be back with the announcement once we unblocked.
@erik-bershel you might want to be aware of this issue I spotted on the latest current available VS2026: https://github.com/microsoft/vcpkg/issues/22074#issuecomment-3672838080
You will probably face the same issue IF you want to use the vcpkg shipped with VS2026 itself.
I hope this will be resolved soon
