Adding things into cart repeatedly will not result in a cart change

On a product page with a number of variatns you can click a button to add a variant into cart which results in an expected behavior. If you click Add to cart again either with the same variant or different one, the cart does not end up changing.The only scenario where you actually add more products to the cart from the same page is if you change the Quantity.
