Android phone
Have you ever tried an Android phone, like a Samsung, or similar devices? Do they also have a similar location tracking mechanism?
Android phones use the Ichnaea protocol hosted by Google. It exposes to upstream your location to ~1 meter accuracy, which is even worse than Apple. However, they don't let you access the location of access points as easily and just return your location upfront from the API. Also, since we don't get to cache the location of access points, you send out more requests as you move.
