As per issue #309 find appropriate code modifications. You can now also find the proposed updates for #307 and #310 - the latter is under soak test but behaving as expected.

Please ignore my debug timestamps and GPIO control as I'm not sure how to exclude them from this pull request.

This is being folded into the new timing algorithm, I think.

These aren't currently in Nachtzuster's fork, however I have maintained my own fork which combines the two.
