We had several recent discussions on the topic of dependencies #885 the latest details are now in #1066 The direction is going to be slightly different and I am adding the details in https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/issues/1066#issuecomment-1964238435

Let's keep the branch around as there is valuable documentation that would need to be carried forward
