I've found that with DDEV Colima is overall performing better in all contexts than Docker Desktop, and even though it's a young project, it's been surprisingly reliable. That's amazing! And of course we know that it relies on all the upstream projects too, but that's amazing!
I did some performance evaluation comparing DDEV performance across lots of different docker environments on macOS, and colima + mutagen was far and away the best, and almost all colima configurations were better than the equivalent Docker Desktop configurations. https://ddev.com/ddev-local/docker-desktop-and-colima-benchmarking-on-macos/
But that brought up... How do we mention Colima on Twitter? Where do we point people for support?
- Maybe a community member could come up with a logo?
- If there's not a twitter handle.. how about getting one?
- Lima is now using #lima in Rancher slack, but how about a #colima channel there also?
Soon I'll write an article specifically about Docker Desktop alternatives, and focusing on Colima. I'll post it back here. But... where would one post it :)
Thanks for all the great work maintaining a great project!
I just stumbled on
- https://github.com/abiosoft/colima/issues/73 So DDEV is now sponsoring via Patreon out of GitHub Sponsors funds.
Colima was an experiment that got more attention than I expected. In fact, it was initially a single bash script refactored from my personal Lima script. I only rewrote it in Go a while after.

I would appreciate this as logo design is not my thing.

Yeah I am open to this, we can create one.

Another welcoming proposition. We can go for this as well.
Thanks for your support :)
- #807 adds new slack channel! That's a good step forward.
