This theme provide Disqus integration. Nonetheless, this popular 3rd-party comment service has a plethora of performance problems. Therefore, many users opt for Staticman, which integrates comments into the remote GitHub/GitLab repo for a static site. This is much better in terms of SEO since the comments are treated like the site's static content. Regarding the load speed, additional static comments would have negligible impact since they are just additional HTML tags underneath the article. What's more, Staticman supports Markown (or even KaTeX).
