The default antialiasing setting is very bad for some users

Workaround: change the AA setting in the menu.

If you experience this, please comment with:

  • your OS
  • your monitor type and DPI
  • which AA value works best for you

afbeelding Screengrab from the web interface, at the default 0.5 setting. It has exactly the same look on the desktop app, but in this sketch it was particularly visible/annoying for me. Pen width changed to make the effect most apparent.

OS: Windows 11 Monitor type: LCD PPI: 90, and my laptop monitor 144 which predictably looks much less bad.

On both monitors, my preferred AA setting is 2.0

I'm happy there is a setting for this, but I imagine it could be a total non-issue for most users. I have been making a lot of pixel art in my life, which often contains manual AA, and therefor got trained to spot 'bad' AA. It stands out to me, but I bet it's invisible to many others!

I got curious how other software implements AA, and tested 3: Adobe illustrator CC (2015) was the worst, maybe they've improved by now? Inkscape makes thin lines a lower opacity, which works quite well until you zoom out too much Foxit pdf reader refuses to draw lines thin, which means it's very unrealistic when you zoom out, but it is quite effective! I think this is my favorite implementation actually. afbeelding afbeelding afbeelding

Thank for the useful feedback!

I'm pretty sure many, if not all, could be bothered by this. I certainly aim, based on the screen shot you provided.

FWIW, here is a screenshot on my screen (200+ dpi if I'm not mistaken), with AA = 0.5:
