System-wide proxy settings not working

'printenv` shows that the changes to /etc/environment aren't picked up :-/

yeah, I thought maybe it would be helpful to add a warning to your (otherwise very helpful!) documentation. I read that advice in a lot of places and for newbies it's pretty frustrating when it doesn't work.
