Feuature: Add quick europe countires selection
Can you please add Europe selection tab, for quick select Europe countries? :)
Related, but not quite the same. It would be nice to have all European countries as one measurement that could be compared to North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. This would help understanding how greater collections of regions are doing in comparison to each other.
Right now US looks really bad in stats, but that is to some extent due fact US has so much greater population than any individual country in Europe. When bundling all European countries together Europe is the worst hit area (2020-04-10). This insight would be somewhat useful.
Then again bundling countries together is problematic. Where does Europe and Asia meet, and other never ending discussions. Taken that in account scaling the graphs to 1 per 1 million could give even better insight - while distorting places like San Marino. And that said maybe the right decision is all of these would be great.
- Quick Europe / other continents country selection
- Continent to continent comparisons
- One per one million population scale tick box
+1 to the request for Europe.
In the meantime, https://old.reddit.com/comments/gb15nc/-/fp30z62/ offers a Europe-oriented set.
Not intended to be a strict set, it is both:
- somewhat more than Europe; and
- less than Europe, where I weeded some countries (for purely cosmetic purposes, to ease the distinction between one line and another, at this point in time, from my UK perspective).
...in regards of comparing the curves of countries or even whole continents an article from today or meanwhile yesterday by david spiegelhalter in the guardian as food for thought: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/30/coronavirus-deaths-how-does-britain-compare-with-other-countries he outlines the flaws and pitfalls to take into consideration interpreting, reading and comparing curves.
@rpkoller thanks and FYI https://old.reddit.com/r/CoronavirusUK/duplicates/gawwlf/-/ – I'll continue there
Then again bundling countries together is problematic. Where does Europe and Asia meet, and other never ending discussions.
I'd say deferring to the contemporary definition as described in Wikipedia would be a good way to resolve this. I don't think that should prevent this feature from being added.
If a more official definition is preferred, that's workable too: we could go with the European Union or the Council of Europe.
You can just use this on the url params: &location=Austria&location=Belgium&location=Bulgaria&location=Croatia&location=Czechia&location=Denmark&location=Estonia&location=Finland&location=France&location=Germany&location=Greece&location=Hungary&location=Ireland&location=Italy&location=Lithuania&location=Luxembourg&location=Netherlands&location=Poland&location=Portugal&location=Romania&location=Slovenia&location=Spain&location=Sweden
So you'll get something like: https://aatishb.com/covidtrends/?location=Austria&location=Belgium&location=Bulgaria&location=Croatia&location=Czechia&location=Denmark&location=Estonia&location=Finland&location=France&location=Germany&location=Greece&location=Hungary&location=Ireland&location=Italy&location=Lithuania&location=Luxembourg&location=Netherlands&location=Poland&location=Portugal&location=Romania&location=Slovenia&location=Spain&location=Sweden
And like this for reported deaths: https://aatishb.com/covidtrends/?data=deaths&location=Austria&location=Belgium&location=Bulgaria&location=Croatia&location=Czechia&location=Denmark&location=Estonia&location=Finland&location=France&location=Germany&location=Greece&location=Hungary&location=Ireland&location=Italy&location=Lithuania&location=Luxembourg&location=Netherlands&location=Poland&location=Portugal&location=Romania&location=Slovenia&location=Spain&location=Sweden
(note that some - very few - countries they don't have any data on it)
Does it make sense to implement a checkbox for this selection? Maybe.. :)
This isn't what's being asked for here, but it may be relevant or of interest. I have a fork which includes trajectories for the world and for each of the continents (including Europe). So it doesn't auto-select the European countries, but it sums them together:
