What is the default chartset?

I got a problem when coverting md to ipynb. Vscode plugin for ipynb can't display the notebook. It lauchs an error "Unexpected token <>"

I think the problem is in the charset of my md and the notedown is not handling well. Is there an default chartset that i should use? I'm running on Windows 10.
