Data directory in the created project template

In surround cli, we have the convention of using the remote name for directory. For instance, if I name the remote data, and do surround pull, it will pull the files in the data directory. At the moment, we have input directory but not data which is slightly misleading. I am not sure about what would be the correct approach here?
