music CC-BY-NC-ND license not good enough, need less restrictive sources
to my surprise my youtube video was hit with a lot of "copyright claims" which didnt make sense to me, since the music is listed as "CC-BY-NC-ND" of course disputing it should have been easy, i have a license to redistribute im not a lawyer but it annoys me greatly when free games use licensed music
my simple and direct dispute which should have been enough for any legit claim holder

rejected dispute, which doesnt ever solve why it was not approved
The copyright owner might disagree with your dispute.
The reason you gave for disputing the claim may have been insufficient or invalid.
if anyone wants to post zero-k videos take that to heart. i wont be suggesting zero-k music but i do suggest changing the music to an artist that doesnt have a 3rd party claim
i thought the music was good enough. its just music. i would rather play without music or replace it with tunes that can be published on youtube without any issues
that is all... thats it, thats my rant. long time original Total Annihilation player longtime GPL & CC enjoyer i have played many FOSS games and discover similar issues its been a longtime since i had spring engine installed on my computer, is 10 years enough?
We're aware of the issue. It started happening when the original creator revisited his old work and put the new versions on YouTube with more restrictive licenses. My impression of this area is that licenses won't save you, that their specifics don't matter, because it is all handled by clueless bots. What really matters is whether someone has uploaded a video with similar enough music to trigger a claim.
The only solution is for someone to create a new soundtrack, and then not put it on Youtube with problematic settings. The license they use won't matter, since Youtube doesn't seen to know or care how FOSS licenses work. You can try out the new tracks that we have so far through the ingame menu with simple settings unticked:
What is the status of your video? How much is this a problem? I don't receive enough feedback to know whether it is worth switching the default soundtrack to the new WIP. Your input would be appreciated.
I personally use superintendent because it doesn't cause any issues but when the game accidentally uses the denny music I sometimes get claims too. Just last week I received two claims, I disputed with something along the lines of
As stated on https://www.autodidactic.ai/music/ "For non-commercial use or student/independent work without major budget/financing, the music is free as long as you credit the artist(s). This includes YouTube creators, streamers, and other content creators that aren't under a big label, production company, or similar structure." My use of the music is allowed under the terms of the license since I'm an independent creator.
Although it's not the license originally placed on the specific songs in question, they did retract the claims. In case you receive another claim maybe append the above to what you wrote (which should've been the correct response since it references the actual license)
Personally I think it would be good to either make superintendent default or have a content creator setting that automatically changes it like some other games do (perhaps even giving a pop-up if certain programs like OBS are running, a bit like Discord's streamer mode)
thanks for feedback
it doesnt effect my video, but you know i just wish youtube claims followed the appropriate licenses especially if i dispute them legally im not in it to monetize my playthroughs of games, fyi
im glad you guys are aware of some issues and have some potential ideas in the works
thanks for the gameplay!
closing this with saying;
the claims on youtube were released without issue.
hope all goes well thanks for the support!
