Amazon Fire tablet asking for permission to access storage

I’ve had a very frustrating afternoon trying to get mods working on my Fire tablet. Everything seems to work fine until I launch the game and I get a message telling me to allow the app to access storage. I’ve definitely given this permission but keep getting the message. I’d be really grateful for some help with this.
