Please let us convert our personal save backups ("wgs" folder)

Open SixelAlexiS90 opened this issue 10 months ago • 9 comments

First of all thank you very much for this program. My humble request is to enable a "manual" mode for people like me that have manually stored the "wgs" folders (under "AppData\Local\Packages") for previously installed and/or available games on Microsoft Store / PC Game Pass.

Right now it only automatically detect and convert the available saves, it would be great to let us convert them by manually select the personal game saves backup.

Thank you very much :)

Hi, I've made a dotnet port of this lib that includes this feature, alongside other improvements: https://github.com/brodrigz/XgpSaveTools/tree/master Your feedback would be more than welcome

Hi! Thank you very much for implementing this, I'm reading the new version features and they sound really cool, sadly I can't build the release myself so I can't try it. I'll gladly do it when a download will be available tho, thank you again <3

Thanks, I'm looking into this by reading the new GitHub page as well but I'm confused. Surely the new option to select which save to convert instead of converting them all is handy, but I don't see how I can manually select external saved "wgs" folder.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the OP but I meant that I don't have those game installed anymore/can't install them (they exit GamePass) but I've stored the the "wgs" folders elsewhere.

Before you gave me the link to this new version I've used a workaroud which was:

  • creating a folder in "packages" with the game ID (got it from PCGW, many of them placed there by myself :'D).
  • putting my personal "wgs" folder in that packages folder and so faking a game installation.
  • starting the extractor and extracted the game saves.

My request was to streamline this without have to go to PCGW and do all the folder stuff. I don't see anything like that in this release, what am I missing? Thank you again for your time and work!

Ah yes, I had misunderstood your request, I've added an option to manually input the wgs folder path in the latest release

Ok, got it thanks! Just a couple of things that would make it better:

If you get an error for a wrong path or an unsupported game, the program will close after you press enter again without the chance of trying again. It would be nice to have another chance to change path if either things happen since it can be used both way, to put a correct path or one pointing to a different (supported) game.

A similar thing happen when you successfully extract a save, the program will close the same way after the "Done" message. It would be nice if, even after a success, you would have the first prompt again so to make a choice and continue in loop.

Thanks again!

Will include better console navigation in the next update, thank you for your time.

Hi! I've just tested the latest release of [XgpSaveTools] and seems great, you can still navigate in the program if getting error or after finishing converting the save, nice!

Btw a small thing that isn't about the program itself but I've noticed that the releases names states "2024" instead of "2025", I guess it's a refuse :'D ?

Oops, that was indeed a typo, btw I've included better navigation in the latest release, I will refrain from commenting in this project's issues any longer as I don't want to hijack it
